SUMMARY:

When she is about six years old, Saffron (sometimes called Saffy) discovers that she’s adopted. The story is set around five years later when Rose (her non biological sister) starts school. Her other siblings after adoption are Indigo and Cadmium. Cadmium is taking one driving lesson after another and keeps failing at them. She falls in love with her instructor, Michael. Then their grandfather comes to visit. He hasn’t been the same since he drove Saffron to the Casson family and back to his house to get her her favourite angel statue that he forgot at his place. He had an accident on the way there and eventually didn’t get her the angel. Some time after he visits the Cassons he dies and leaves the kids everything he has. Cadmium gets his old house in Wales, Indigo gets his car, Rose gets his money and Saffron gets her angel. Soon after that, Saffy runs into a girl on a wheelchair, Sarah. She becomes her best friend and Saffron tells her about the angel in his grandfather’s garden in Siena. Sarah makes a plan about talking her rich parents into driving her to Italy, Siena and smuggling Saffron along. They somehow really pull that off but find only locked door where her granddad’s garden was. They are very disappointed and try again and again until they meet her ex-neighbour who tells them that her grandfather took the angel with him. That disappoints them and they finally stop looking for it. They return home, where Caddy finally passes her driving test and is very sad about that because she is certain that she’ll never see Michael again. Indigo and Rose convince Caddy to drive to the house that his grandfather left her and look for the angel there. They really drive there surprisingly without any accidents even though Caddy drives and she is a terrible driver. They find a closed box that they can’t open so they take it with them back home. When they open it at home they find out that Saffy’s angel is in it, but sadly, it’s broken. Cadmium fixes it and gives it to Saffron. Saffron finally feels that she belongs in the Casson family.

CHARACTERS:

The main characters are Saffron, who is actually Casson’s adopted cousin, Sarah who is her best friend on a wheelchair, Indigo, who is Saffron’s kind of brother and cousin and is afraid of almost everything, Rose who is very fierce and stubborn and a great artist, Cadmium, who is a lot like her mother and very friendly but keeps failing her exams, Eve, who is Saffron’s step-mother and also her aunt and an artist and Bill, who is her step-father and lives in London and is a painter.

OPPINION:

I loved this book very much! It’s definitely the perfect escape into a different world and I would recommend it to everyone. It’s heart-warming and lovely and talks about an artistic family and I think you should definitely read it if you get the chance.
