Summary:

The Fault in our Stars is not a cancer book. It talks about Hazel Grace Lancaster who is a cancer survivor and falls in love with Augustus Waters who has beaten cancer once before. He loves her back so despite her illness she gets to live her dream and everything looks pretty much perfect. They both like a book called An Imperial Affliction and they want to meet its writer, Peter Van Houten. They go on a trip to the Nederlands to meet him and to find out the end of his book which ends in the middle of well, everything. He turns out to be a rude person with a drinking problem so they leave him there and enjoy their staying in Amsterdam. Augustus wants to get the ending of An Imperial Affliction for Hazel so he writes a letter to Van Houten. But one day everything comes crashing down. SPOILER ALLERT!!! Augustus gets very ill when his cancer returns and it only goes down from there. In the end he dies before Hazel and the book ends with the letter that he wrote to Peter van Houten.

Characters:

The main characters are Hazel Grace (who is also the narrator), Augustus Waters who is Hazel’s big crush, Hazel’s parents who are great and try very hard to make Hazel’s last days worth living, her best friend Kaitlyn who gives great advice and Peter Van Houten who drinks too much but turns out to not be mean and he actually is one of the good guys.

Opinion:

It’s a good book and I liked it, but it kind of made me think about cancer so if you’re not an over thinker like me and you love romantic stories, you’ll probably love this book. Personally I think it’s a bit overrated but it’s still worth reading. So I would recommend it but it’s really not a tragedy if you don’t have the access to it.
